Community Plate invites you to come to The Corner, a free monthly evening of community storytelling held the second Thursday of each month, 7-9pm, at LA Arts in Lewiston.
MAY THEME: “Outsider”
We’ve all experienced times when we felt like we didn’t fit in: grade school, middle school, high school, college, and even in the workplace. At one time or another, we’ve been on the outside looking in. Think about a time that you welcomed someone in from the outside, provided, or received, unforgettable hospitality, or brought someone into your inner circle. The change from outsider to insider, or vice versa, can be a powerful, transformative experience in someone’s life. We’d love to hear your outsider story. You can also feel free to tell a story about just being outside!
As always, the themes at The Corner are just a starting point, an opportunity to take a story idea in any direction. The Corner is one place where you never have to worry about being an outsider. Everyone is welcome. Come to The Corner: Come listen. Come tell. Come on inside.
In May LA Arts will be collaborating with Art Van to host an exhibit featuring Maury Ornest, a former minor league baseball player, turned artist, who struggled with mental illness, and passed away from heart disease at the age of 58, leaving thousands of paintings discovered after his death. The exhibit is called “Outsider.”
Bring a dessert to share! The Corner features a fun DESSERT POTLUCK! Bring something sweet to share with your fellow storytellers and story listeners.
Each evening of The Corner includes several featured storytellers, who volunteer in advance, and because everyone has a story to tell, an open mic portion, where there is the opportunity for anyone to get up and tell a story. If you would like to be one of our featured storytellers send us an email at community@communityplate.me
Stories should be five minutes (or less), first person, fundamentally factual, and free of handheld notes. For more information about how to tell a story at The Corner, visit: https://www.cometothecorner.com/tell
The Corner is a free community event. No tickets or reservations required.
