Community Plate invites you to come to The Corner, a free monthly evening of community storytelling held the second Thursday of each month, 7-9pm, at LA Arts in Lewiston.
SEPTEMBER THEME: “BACK TO SCHOOL!” Pencils are sharpened, yellow buses are back on the streets, and parents are breathing a sigh of relief: school is back in session! Whether you’re starting a new grade, returning to finish a degree, or relishing the quiet of an empty house, heading back to school is a time of excitement and change. Maybe you’ve reinvented yourself in a new school and setting? Maybe you’ve been stuck with terrible roommates and found yourself desperately homesick? Maybe you’ve felt proud–and a little heartsick–as you unpack the car and settle your kid into their dorm. We’d also love to hear stories about times when you’ve tried to learn something new – how did it go? School and life educates us in so many ways, and we want to hear what you’ve learned!
As always, the themes at The Corner are just a starting point, an opportunity to take a story idea in any direction. We’re all learning as we go, so have fun with it! Come to The Corner! Come listen. Come tell.
Back at The Corner this season: Bring a dessert to share! In addition to pizza from DaVinci’s, we’ve added a DESSERT POTLUCK! Bring something sweet to share with your fellow storytellers and story listeners.
Each evening of The Corner includes several featured storytellers, who volunteer in advance, and because everyone has a story to tell, an open mic portion, where there is the opportunity for anyone to get up and tell a story. If you would like to be one of our featured storytellers send us an email at community@communityplate.me
Stories should be five minutes (or less), first person, fundamentally factual, and free of handheld notes. For more information about how to tell a story at The Corner, visit: https://www.cometothecorner.com/tell
The Corner is a free community event. No tickets or reservations required.
